Temporomandibular Joint Disorder Technology
At San Francisco Center for TMJ and Sleep Apnea, we pride ourselves in remaining at the top of the latest advancements in technology for the treatment of TMD.
Our technology allows us to Diagnosis your symptoms and provide you with a full Treatment Plan the same day you visit our San Francisco Office.
Below are advanced instrumentation that Dr. Samadian uses daily for evaluation and treatment of TMJ disorders in San Francisco:
PowerSpin LX Centrifuge
Platelet–rich plasma (PRP) therapy uses injections of a concentration of a patient’s own platelets to accelerate the healing of injured tendons, ligaments, muscles and joints. In this way, PRP injections use each individual patient’s own healing system to improve musculoskeletal problems.
Understanding PRP
Human blood may look like a sticky pool of liquid to the naked eye, but scientists have isolated three components within that blood:
Red cells
White cells
Platelets
Platelets allow your body to form clots in order to stop bleeding and preserve your life after an injury, but they also contain proteins that play an important role in healing injured tissue. Platelet-rich plasma treatments allow trained medical professionals to draw blood from a patient, use a technical process known as centrifugation to increase the platelet content of the blood, and then inject that platelet-rich blood into tissue in need of healing.
Dr. Samadian explains: “When platelets are activated in the body, they release healing proteins called growth factors – regulate the timing of the cell cycle in eukaryotic cells. These growth factors (Cyclins) have a range of responsibilities, a predominant feature of which is their ability to accelerate tissue repair and improve wound healing.”
iTero Dental Impressions
The iTero Intraoral Scanner allows San Francisco TMJ Specialist Dr. Samadian to take a 3D digital scan, or “picture,” of a patient’s teeth and bite rather than using a viscous impression material. Not only is the iTero Intraoral Scanner significantly more patient-friendly, it also offers increased precision and eliminates the risks of gagging or swallowing excess impression gel.
We are able to provide our patients with a non-invasive, three- to five-minute scan that digitally captures the form and structure of the tooth and gum line through a series of 3D pictures. This digital impression scanner performs parallel confocal scanning by capturing 100,000 laser points in perfect focus, providing greater accuracy to patients and virtually eliminating return appointments for readjustments. A new and improved digital “map of the mouth” helps our team educate our patients for a better in-office experience.
BioResearch Technology: MLS Laser
MLS Laser Therapy technology is the most advanced laser therapy system on the market. Reduction of response times, and overall treatment times distinguishes MLS Laser Therapy from traditional options. With MLS, there are reciprocal advantages for both the operator and the patient.
To begin, MLS Laser Therapy reduces healing time. The MLS Laser will reduce the time it takes to reduce pain and inflammation by increasing circulation and encouraging the formation of Fibroblasts, which are the building blocks of the healing process.
Other benefits of MLS laser therapy are relatively new in the medical industry. However, despite this, doctors are quick to adopt the technology as they see a marked improvement in their patients’ quality of life, and, most notably, in the reduction of pain and swelling, and the increase in patient mobility.
BioJVA™
JVA, or Joint Vibration Analysis, provides a fast, non-invasive, and repeatable measurement of TMJ function to aide in the diagnosis of TMJ function. Understanding TMJ function is vital whenever a change in vertical, lateral, or A/P position of the mandible is needed. Common treatments that change the mandibular, such as TMD treatment, Orthodontics, Prosthodontics, Reconstruction and Sleep Dentistry, can all benefit from JVA testing.
Human joints have surfaces that rub together in function. Smooth, well-lubricated surfaces in a proper biomechanical relationship produce little friction and little vibration. However, surface changes, such as those caused by degeneration, tears, or displacements of the disk, generally produce friction and vibration. Different disorders can produce different vibration patterns, or “signatures”. PC-assisted vibration analysis helps identify these patterns and helps dentists distinguish between various TMJ disorders.
Cone Beam Technology
Use of the Cone-beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) of the maxillofacial region has quickly become an extremely important technology for TMD diagnosis. It utilizes an extremely low dose of energy to image the joints, neck and head. By utilizing CBCT for imaging, dentists can receive sub-millimeter spatial resolution images of high diagnostic quality with relatively short scanning times.
Myotronics Technology K7 Evaluation System
Crucial to neuromuscular dentistry, the K7 Evaluation System by Myotronics measures and records mandibular function and masticatory muscle status—it adds invaluable information to the diagnostic process. Objective information about TMJ joint status further adds to the clinician’s data.
The K7 Evaluation System provides the dental clinician or researcher with three technologies for measuring, displaying, and storing objective data on physiologic and anatomical status and function:
This objective data enhances the diagnostic and treatment considerations with information that has not
J5 Myomonitor TENS Unit
The J5 Myomonitor TENS Unit is the latest in a succession of Myotronics products with a history of over thirty-five years of clinical effectiveness. It is known that jaw and cervical muscles play a significant role in head posture and consequently may impact occlusion. For years many dentists have stimulated these jaw and cervical muscles to relax them as part of the overall diagnosis and treatment process. TENS is a valuable tool for in-office procedures for occlusal adjustment and in-bite registration, it is also useful in the treatment of most types of TMD dysfunction and associated pain.
