Coronavirus – COVID-19
Health and safety of our patients and staff
Dear San Francisco TMJ and Sleep Apnea patients,
Thank you for allowing us to support you through your health and wellness journey. We hope that you consider our Center a safe space and encouraging environment for healing. Your safety and well-being truly are our purpose and priority. As a member of the San Francisco TMJ and Sleep Apnea community, we want to share with you the steps we are taking to keep our patients, our staff, and our entire community healthy and safe amidst the current challenges effecting public health. In response to the “shelter in place” announcement, we have decided to limit our normal operations in order to ensure the safety of our patients, team, and to do our part in helping slow the rate of COVID-19 spread. We thank you for your understanding and support. We have implemented many proactive steps to maintain the healthiest possible environment including the CDA’s best practices.
The most recent update for our profession as of Monday, March 23rd, 2020, is that the California Dental Association (CDA) and the City of San Francisco is strongly recommending that dentists practicing in California voluntarily suspend non-essential and non-urgent care until further notice and consistent with the current shelter in place order. At this time tentatively, we will plan to re-open our office on Monday, April 6th, 2020, though we realize that the situation is continually developing. If you have an appointment scheduled prior to April 6th a team member will be reaching out shortly to re-schedule your appointment.
In the interim, we will be available at the office (by appointment only) for any necessary emergency-based care that may arise. We will also have the capability to perform phone/web consultations during this time if you are interested in keeping or scheduling a consultation appointment. We will be available by phone at 415-872-5116 both during and after business hours if you need to reach us for any emergency care or questions, and we will be checking the voicemail box periodically during the day.
Upon resumption of our normal clinical schedule, we will be implementing proper patient screening and infection control measures to keep our patients and team members safe and protected. We ask that if you are exhibiting any cold/flu like symptoms (sore throat, cough, fever), have come in contact with anyone diagnosed with COVID-19, or had recent travel to high risk areas within the last 2 weeks, to please call our office to further delay your appointment.
Coronavirus Concerns & Precautions
The San Francisco Center For TMJ And Sleep Apnea Uses Standard Precautions and Transmission-Based Precautions
Standard Precautions are the minimum infection prevention practices that apply to all patient care, regardless of the suspected or confirmed infection status of the patient, in any setting where health care is delivered.
Transmission-Based Precautions include Contact Precautions, Droplet Precautions and Airborne Precautions, and are based on the likely routes of transmission of specific infectious agents.
Our office protocols are designed to protect both Dental Healthcare Personnel (DHCP) and you, our patients.
These precautions include:
• Hand hygiene
• Use of personal protective equipment (e.g., gloves, masks, eyewear)
• Respiratory hygiene / cough etiquette
• Sharps Safety (engineering and work practice controls)
• Safe injection practices (i.e., aseptic technique for parenteral medications)
• Sterilization of instruments and devices. All instruments are sterilized or used once and disposed of.
• All surfaces of our dental treatment rooms are cleaned and disinfected after every patient. The materials and methods used have been shown to be effective for viruses.
We remain committed to keeping you informed, as well as protecting your health and safety. If you would like to find out more on your own, we highly recommend the Johns Hopkins Coronavirus Resource Center at https://coronavirus.jhu.edu
